Cultural Commonwealth

The name of the report is “Cultural Commonwealth; the final report of the ACL on Cyberinfrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences,” and you can access it at http://www.acls.org/cyberinfrastructure/OurCulturalCommonwealth.pdf.
The Googlization of Libraries
Today there will be an interesting talk given at the Penn State Library that both Mike Halm and I will be attending … The Googlization of libraries: What do public services look like after all of our books have been digitized? See if you can join us! I’d love to say that it would be podcasted, but I doubt it.
Laurie and Mike will lead a discussion of how the Penn State Libraries should prepare for the service changes that will be needed, and maybe are already needed in an environment where more and more of our collections have been digitized. Will our services be the “value-added” element that defines our role in the open information environment? How will we adjust our models for access and delivery of content? Keynote: Maricopa Gateway Community College
On January 8th, 2008 I will be giving a keynote talk I am titling, Enabling the New Classroom Conversation. I am heading back to the Maricopa system where I did a similar talk last year.
During this talk we will investigate three key trends impacting educators in their overall design of learning. Focusing on the emergence of user-created content, social spaces, and mobile devices we will take an integrated look at how we can better utilize technology within these areas to meet the needs of the net-generation. We will also explore how these technologies have, and continue to, impact both faculty and learners and review some active examples within each area. During this talk, we will focus attention on how educators can leverage technology to shape learning outcomes in new ways.
