I posted a draft of the next ANGELshort under the Innovative Quizzing tab. The topic concerns the placement and use of various media objects within an ANGEL quiz. I also posted two short videos. The first video demonstrates how to embed a movie clip into a quiz and the second video demonstrates how to preview the question.

"Drop boxes provide an area for students to submit assignments electronically. You can then review and grade these assignments either by viewing them in your Web browser or downloading them to your desktop. However, did you know that as an alternative to downloading each drop box submission separately, you could download all drop box submissions simultaneously?"

The ANGEL Quizzing Team, comprised of instructors and instructional support staff from around Penn State, is focused on exploring new and powerful ways to use ANGEL Quizzes. In particular, the team identified several potential areas of growth regarding the use of ANGEL quizzes. These areas include the opportunity for instructors to (1) increase the use of question banks and question pools, e,g, materials from publishers, (2) incorporate third party applications such as Captivate and Softchalk, and (3) embed multimedia files (images, sounds and movie clips) into quiz questions.

IST has developed a tool, called LitterBox, that removes the extra files created when downloading an entire drop box folder from ANGEL to your desktop. This tool is extremely helpful for instructors who use this means to then upload the drop box submissions into Turnitin. Today we held the first in a series of town hall meetings focusing on what faculty, staff, and students can expect to find when we upgrade to ANGEL 7.2 the weekend of July 19. Some of the planned changes in 7.2 include:

A more robust mail tool

An HTML editor that incorporates a WebEq component

A Date Manager

A Permissions Manager

ANGELshorts Vol. 2, Issue #4 Five Things Faculty Should Know about Publishing Final Grades is now available.

"When preparing to submit grades for a course while in eLion, instructors have the option of pulling in the “published” final grades for their students in their ANGEL course. If you have been using the ANGEL gradebook throughout the semester, this feature could save you having to manually enter a grade in eLion for each student."
