Wimba integrated into ANGEL?

A faculty member who attended the Hendricks conference on Monday is excited about a session she attended in which she heard that at Penn College of Tech, they are using 'Wimba Live' teleconferencing capability within ANGEL. She does a lot of distance learning within her courses and used Skye with Adobe Connect and ANGEL last year. From what she saw at the conference, she thinks Wimba provides space within Angel to do web conferencing and she wants to know how she can gain access for her courses this summer. Does anyone know more about this?

ANGEL/Elluminate Integration

While I can't address your original question, I can tell you that ANGEL and Elluminate are announcing an initiative to seamlessly integrate Elluminate Live! (in use by Penn State World Campus) into the ANGEL Learning Management Suite. The integration will be previewed at the ANGEL User Conference in Cincinnati on May 19-21.

We'll be issuing a joint press release shortly, which will be posted at www.elluminate.com.

Wimba

I discussed this with Terry. There are no plans to license and use Wimba in ANGEL at this time. We do have a task on our work plan to evaluate the integration of Wimba applications in ANGEL and any performance considerations involved. No definitive timeframe has been decided for this evaluation due to other higher priorities. We will review the work plan later this summer after our upgrade to ANGEL 7.2 in July.

If you have any specific needs in this area, please contact ANGEL Support via the help form. I'd also recommending including the URL to this article in the submission since I'm not normally handling support mail anymore and the rest of ANGEL Support may not be in the loop on this conversation. (I've assumed a shadowy and more behind-the-scenes role).

Someone brought my post regarding Angel and the Wimba integration to the attention of a Wimba consultant, so he contacted me via email. Here is a portion of his response: "Right now only PCT campus is using Wimba with Angel. I am in regular contact with the PSU main campus, mostly Terry O'Heron and John Hardwood, about integrating our tools with the rest of the Angel platform. But I believe they are waiting until they upgrade their Angel environment over the summer to even consider this possibility."

I didn't want to touch this because I simply don't have the information that you are asking for—this is probably why no one else responded. I've asked for more information and will follow up when I have it.

If you have ANGEL questions like this that you need an answer on, you should probably submit them to ANGEL Support.
