I have been having a really hard time with importing grades from an Excel Spreadsheet. A professor has the grades for his first exam in an excel spreadsheet. He has his grade book set up properly on ANGEL. First I tried importing the xls file, and following the directions I found on a previous blog posting (setting the column values). Unfortunately every column only gives me the option to skip. Then I tried saving the spread sheet in CSV format...same thing. Next I tried exporting the grades into a CSV file, and then simply copying and pasting them over from the xls file. Then when I tried re-importing this file, it wouldn't take the new grades. I can't think of anything else to try. Any ideas?

Troubleshooting imports
The causes are usually:
1. Not matching columns in the spreadsheet to the user ID and assignment correctly.
2. Not having the students' user IDs in the correct format. The user ID must be just the user ID (e.g. xyz123 or xyz5000). It cannot be an email address, PSU ID, email alias, or anything else. I've also seen situations in which there are stray spaces in front of or after the user ID (e.g. a row like: "xyz123 , 90"
3. Not having numeric values in the grade column.
To troubleshoot issue #2, I would open up the CSV file in your favorite text editor, such as Notepad (NOT WordPad or Word) and make sure that things look as they should.
If you still need help with this, please contact ANGEL Support at angelsupport@psu.edu. Make sure to include the following in your email:
1. The title of the course into which you're importing grades.
2. The title of the assignment(s).
3. The settings you choose on each screen of the import process. You can send screenshots of this if you like.
4. The CSV file you are using for the import.
We can take a look at it and tell you what's up.
