Blackboard Buys ANGEL Learning

Late yesterday afternoon Blackboard Inc. announced it was acquiring ANGEL Learning, Inc. The acquisition is expected to become final later this month. We are in the process of evaluating the meaning of this acquisition and how it impacts the Penn State community.

Hallelujah, Amen!

Blackboard isn't without its own issues, and many of ANGEL's complications are rooted in Penn State's implementation of the product, but this corporate acquisition has the potential to be the greatest news in years for Penn State's enterprise-wide instructional technologies. But as I already wrote, the benefits and detriments will be linked to our implementation.

I will walk around today a degree more hopeful for the future, until I discover the reasons to believe otherwise.
