WhoDunIt Send Report

I searched for this, but can't find it..

A faculty member has used the Whodunit report to see who has NOT contributed to a discussion - Didn't there used to be a feature to e-mail the people who had not done it yet?

I tried the following but....

Now I see you can send a report from Whodunit - but when I click on that - it attaches the list as a pdf of all the folks who did not contribute yet - but doesn't automatically populate them in the "to" - That's not a huge deal, except students could see everyone on the list which wouldn't be preferable I don't think - if my goal isn't to embarrass, but simply to nudge...

Is there another way to do this?

Thanks!!

Workaround

In thinking about this for a few more moments, I came up with a somewhat-ugly workaround for what you would like to do using teams and the action editor. You would enroll everyone onto a team and then create an action which will remove students from the team once they have posted. To send a reminder to students who have not yet posted to the forum you would send a message to the team. If you need to do this for multiple forums you will need to create multiple teams.

To create the action:

  1. Create a team. Set hidden to yes if you do not want students to see this team or its membership. Copy the team name for later use.
  2. If students have not yet started posting to the forum enroll all students onto the team. Otherwise, enroll only those who have not yet posted.
  3. Enter the forum's settings. Select the Action tab.
  4. Switch to Advanced view if needed. Click Action Editor.
  5. Click New.
  6. Click Team Unenroll.
  7. In the Team(s) field paste the name of the team that you created in step 1. The team name must match exactly including case as well as spaces or punctuation.
  8. Set event to submit.
  9. Scroll to the bottom and press the save button.
  10. Press the save button at the top of this window. The window will close.
  11. Back in the main window, press the save button.

To send email:

  1. Begin a new mail message.
  2. Click the To button.
  3. In the Quick Search section click Teams.
  4. Check the box for the team created when creating the action then press the Bcc button. Using Bcc will ensure that students will not see the list of recipients or the team name.
  5. Finish composing your message as normal
  6. .

You can use this method for other content types as well. It makes most sense with those content types that are submitted: assessments, drop boxes, forums, games, PSUUTS, quizzes, and surveys.

Send mail button in whodunit

The "send mail" button was a casualty of a customization we had to make during the the 7.1 upgrade 2.5 years ago. Sending mail using that report relies on a service that we don't run at PSU because it has a negative impact on ANGEL performance and stability. We sent a request to ANGEL Learning to provide a workaround but that hasn't happened.
