New ANGEL feature allows instructors to see student Penn State ID+ photos

As of the summer II term, when ANGEL course editors are viewing their course roster, they can see each student's Penn State ID+ photo. This will assist instructors, particularly in large courses, with matching students' names and faces. The new feature is made possible through a collaboration between Information Technology Services and Housing and Food Services.

With the new feature, those with course editor rights can see a photo of each student when they access the course roster page and select the "Show Pictures" link in the toolbar.

New versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox not yet recommended for ANGEL

ANGEL users should be aware that the recently released Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4 web browsers are not yet fully supported for use with ANGEL by Blackboard, the parent company of ANGEL. Users should continue to use Internet Explorer 7 or 8 or Firefox 3, as described in the "Recommended Browsers and Computers" topic in the ANGEL Help and Information Guide: http://kb.its.psu.edu/cms/article/6.

Blackboard is committed to supporting the Internet Explorer and Firefox updates as soon as possible, while ensuring through testing that they are compatible with the full range of ANGEL features. ANGEL support regrets any inconvenience this browser compatibility issue causes to users and will post an update when the issue is resolved.

May 11 update fixed ANGEL issues

On May 11, Information Technology Services installed ANGEL service pack updates from Blackboard. The updates addressed numerous issues that had been reported. These are detailed below.

The following issues have been fixed:

Assessments

  • When using a "matching" type question with more definitions than terms, the percentage value may be changed.
  • Assessments cannot be copied if they contain an essay question associated with a rubric.
  • The word "Permanently" was misspelled in assessment question deletion confirmation messages.
  • The image URL path does not convert correctly when migrating a quiz to an assessment in courses

Course Submission & Consultation System e-mail notification error detected

Information Technology Services has detected a minor error in the Course Submission and Consultation System within ANGEL.

Firefox 4

I saw that Firefox 4 was released last week (?) and made the mistake of upgrading only to be reminded that ANGEL isn't yet tested/compatible with this version of the browser. Does anyone know where we could go for specific updates, testing results, or plans on updating ANGEL?

Two errors affecting Course Submission and Consultation System slated to be corrected

Two errors, detailed below, have been identified in the Course Submission and Consultation System (CSCS) within ANGEL. Information Technology Services tentatively plans to correct the errors by the end of February.

Comments on Assessment Tool

An instructor has an essay portion on her assessment. When grading the essay, she also adds feedback in the comment box.

In the grades category under the Reports tab, the students can see their total score (for the multiple choice questions and the final essay); however, the instructors comments do not show in the box.

I never had this issue with the quiz feature. Do I need to adjust the settings somewhere?
