Regrading a drop box

I ran into an issue in a course today where the total number of points in the gradebook for a drop box assignment was 10. When the instructor graded the assignment in the drop box, she used a total of 100 points. If she gave someone 97 points in the drop box, it showed up as 970% in the gradebook because the grade is based on 10 points rather than 100. After much trial and error, I was able to correct the problem...sort of. It seems like this would have been much easier if I could have set the points to 100 and automatically regraded the drop box submissions the way you can quizzes. Has anybody else ever dealt with the type of issue?

Hidden assignment and hidden grade

Students have two options if they want to see grades on ANGEL:

Option 1: Report tab -- choose Grades under Type . This option displays the overall but not the class average of each assignment.
Option 2: Report tab -- choose Learner Profile under Type , and Gradebook under Select Data. This option displays the class average ("course average") but not the overall grade.

If an assignment is hidden ("Do not allow users to view this item" checked under Edit - Access ), students will not be able to see their grades if they use Option 2, however, Option 1 won't be affected.

Is there a way to let the professor decide whether class average should be displayed in Option 2? I have a few faculty members not wanting to show the class average.

How to Exclude Non-students Grades from Category Averages in the Gradebook

By default the gradebook factors in everyone's scores when calculating category and overall averages. This means there is the potential to inadvertently skew class averages because, depending on the gradebook settings, scores for course editors, assistants, and authenticated guests are factored into the category and overall average calculations. This is true even if you select the "Only Students" option to view grades. However, there is a way to remove all non-students from the average calculation.

ANGEL 7.1 Gradebook Problem Corrected

The following notice was sent out by ANGEL Support. Please note that the problem has been corrected and all course editors have been notified.

Notice to Instructors and Course Editors that grades are now correct and
being properly calculated when using the "Treat Ungraded Items as Zero"
Option in the ANGEL Course Gradebook.

Grades were not properly calculated when all of the below options were
selected:

1. Your gradebook mode is percentage,

2. You have selected the "Treat Ungraded Items as Zero" option, and

3. You are dropping grades, e.g. drop the lowest score in a category.

The problem has been fixed and in these instances the gradebook is now
correctly dropping the lowest score for the student. If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact ANGEL Support.

Bringing in Assignments That Occur Outside of ANGEL

With the Course Gradebook there is no longer the manually scored assignment (MSA) option under the Lessons tab, like there was with the Penn State Gradebook. Instead this option has been incorporated right into the gradebook proper. To create an MSA:

1. go into the gradebook
2. select the assignments link
3. select the add new option
4. complete the fields (assignment name, point values, etc.)
5. select save

This will serve the same function. You can add/edit scores and students can see their grades for assignments outside of ANGEL.

Re-ordering Assignments in the Gradebook

Gradebook assignments are grouped by category. To reorder the assignments within a category go into the gradebook and:

    1. Select the Categories link located under the Gradebook Management header.
    2. Click the box next to the category you want to rearrange assignments in.
    3. Click the Show Tasks button
    4. Select the Reorder Assignments link
    5. Click on the assignment you wish to move
    6. Select the "Top", "Up", "Down", or "Bottom" button as appropriate
    7. Click the Save button when finished

Note: To rearrange categories, follow steps 1 through 3 above and and use the "Move Up" or "Move Down" option as appropriate.
