The BuzzLion for the week of September 7 is going to focus on educational technology and not mention any old cliches that may be misconstrued (for some reason) as an insult.
Cole Camplese, ETS director, has thought a lot about the problem of fractured online identity and how to aggregate all the online spaces/social Internet sites that has his posts. He may have found a great solution.
Tim Perry, ETS consultant, has an interesting idea for an eLearning channel. Read about it and offer your thoughts.
Allan Gyorke, ETS technology manager, is all about the flow? What flow? The flow of change, and accepting it as a good thing. He makes a great case for the advantages of this mindset.
Elizabeth Pyatt, ETS instructional designer, talks about an experience she had teaching herself something in Filemaker Pro. So, she raises the question: Did I truly learn anything? Find out her thoughts in her post “Is Independent Learning Really Learning?” on her blog.
Brett Bixler, ETS lead instructional designer, wrote a post to the Educational Gaming Commons a while back about Wild Divine, a game that offers biofeedback for heart health. He has an update on the game, including a new Health Matters class on it.
A bit of news and announcements:
On Sep 30, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM in room 141 Computer Bldg, Bryan Ollendyke from the e-Learning Institute at PSU will chat about e-Learning’s use of Drupal for course development and implementation. If you are curious about what a center is doing in this area, please consider attending. Lunch is provided.
You can also attend via Adobe Connect at http://breeze.psu.edu/itpro.
Free technology tutoring available to faculty at University Park
Faculty members at University Park who would like one-on-one tutoring on teaching, learning, and class management tools can apply to have a technology-savvy student help them acquire computer skills on a range of topics.
Faculty members at University Park who would like one-on-one tutoring on teaching, learning, and class management tools can apply to have a technology-savvy student help them acquire computer skills on a range of topics. Through the Technology Learning Assistant (TLA) program, students tutor faculty in their offices on PowerPoint, Excel, file management, e-mail, Web page development, electronic gradebook software, and other applications and tools. TLAs can also demonstrate how to use Penn State services such as ANGEL, podcasting and iTunes U, Adobe Connect desktop videoconferencing, ITS Streaming Services, and the Blogs at Penn State. To learn more about the TLA program or to fill out the brief online application form, visit http://ets.tlt.psu.edu/tla/. The Technology Learning Assistant program is sponsored by the Schreyer Honors College, the College of Information Sciences and Technology, the Instructional Systems program of the College of Education, and Information Technology Services.
That’s all for BuzzLion for this week. Thanks for reading!
