ETS Discussions are informal talks hosted by ETS that welcome guests to share openly. We are always looking for individuals who are interested in spending time talking with us about any topic. Each ETS Discussion will be recorded and shared with the teaching and learning community.

TLT Innovators Speaker Series: Kyle Peck
The first presentation from the TLT Innovators Speaker Series featuring Kyle Peck, Associate Dean for Outreach, Technology, and International Programs, and Professor of Education in the College of Education entitled “It’s What the Student Does that Counts: Rethinking the Roles of Students, Teachers, and Technologies” is now available for download. This presentation, which occurred on October 4, 2006, is the first of three such talks by faculty speakers this fall.

ETS Discussion: Dr. Matt Jackson
The Digital Commons team recently hosted Dr. Matt Jackson, Associate Professor of Communications and Head of the Department of Telecommunications in the the College of Communications to discuss copyright law, Fair Use, TEACH Act, and their impact on teaching and learning, especially as it concerns student and faculty use of multimedia. Dr. Jackson has done extensive research on issues of copyright, and provides many examples and fields questions from those in attendance which help to clarify an often intimidating subject.

TLT Innovators Speaker Series: David Passmore and Rose Baker
We concluded the 2007 TLT Speakers Series with David L. Passmore, professor of education and director of the Institute for Research in Training and Development and Rose M. Baker, program manager, Workforce Assessment Center, Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Penn State Outreach, presenting “Applications of Stock Markets for Information in Instruction.”

TLT Innovators Speaker Series: Brian Smith
Join us for the second presentation from the TLT Innovators Speaker Series featuring Brian Smith, Associate Professor of Information Sciences and Technology and Instructional Systems entitled “Live and Learn: Supporting Everyday Cognition with Computation.” Dr. Smith’s talk will be held October 18, 2006 at 3 PM in the first floor HUB Auditorium on the University Park Campus. This presentation is the second of three such talks by faculty speakers this fall — take a peek at how the first one went by downloading the podcast of Kyle Peck’s talk.
For this talk we are inviting you to bring your laptops and participate by blogging the talk. We will also provide opportunities to participate in podcasting demonstrations.
