Learning Design Summer Camp 2009 Planning Underway

Here we are a few weeks from the annual TLT Symposium and we’re already talking about Summer Camp! Last year we had over 100 people come and spend two days with us as we explored new and emerging ideas and challenges in the learning design community. For many it was a chance to get away, work on new ideas, present new thinking, and hurt their heads — for me it was just plain old fun.

As we did last year, the LDSC09 is an open event — planning happens by the community, for the community. What that means is that the planning wiki is now live and you are invited to not only sign up, but also help design the event! So please take the time to get involved … we all are responsible for making LDSC09 as powerful and memorable as last year.

Learning Design Summer Camp Podcast

ETS is holding the first Learning Design Summer Camp August 12-13 at the Pattee-Paterno Library at University Park.

The Learning Design Summer Camp is different both in how it is being planned and who will attend. While you think an event on learning design would be exclusive to instructional designers, this event has people from other disciplines attending. And the Summer Camp planning is unique in several ways, including attendees volunteering to help organize the event.

To find out more, I interviewed Cole Camplese, ETS director, and Allan Gyorke, education technology manager. Allan and Cole talked about the event, how it is being planned, and what you can do to help plan and execute this unique event.

Listen to the Podcast.

Learning Design Summer Camp!

ETS is planning, with a healthy dose of community involvement, the first annual Learning Design Summer Camp to be held at University Park on August 12 and 13, 2008. Please know that you are invited to participate in the planning and in the actual event. We are doing things a little differently with this event — you register yourself and help build the program by visiting the ETS Wiki space. Login with your PSU credentials and please help us make this a great and open event … find the wiki at http://ets.tlt.psu.edu/wiki/Learning_Design_Summer_Camp

Learning Design Summer Camp Concept

We’ve started working up a concept for what we are calling the Learning Design Summer Camp … it is an extension/redesign of the long standing all ID summer meeting. The idea is to provide guidance and awareness with the services we have to support teaching and learning (blogging, adobe connect, angel, podcasting, wiki, digital commons, etc) to as many people around the PSU environment as possible. I am anxious to see us also find ways to raise the level of the conversation so we are getting beyond just the technology and diving into some of the deeper/larger challenges associated with teaching and learning (assessment, engagement, pedagogy). Allan, Brett, and I have been talking about this for a few weeks and the thinking so far is sitting in the ETS wiki space … please take a few minutes to jump in and share some thoughts — preferably in the wiki itself in the “discussion” area of the article. We hope we can make this happen and that you will plan to join us.
