Learning Design Summer Camp Podcast

ETS is holding the first Learning Design Summer Camp August 12-13 at the Pattee-Paterno Library at University Park.

The Learning Design Summer Camp is different both in how it is being planned and who will attend. While you think an event on learning design would be exclusive to instructional designers, this event has people from other disciplines attending. And the Summer Camp planning is unique in several ways, including attendees volunteering to help organize the event.

To find out more, I interviewed Cole Camplese, ETS director, and Allan Gyorke, education technology manager. Allan and Cole talked about the event, how it is being planned, and what you can do to help plan and execute this unique event.

Podcast: Interview with Cole Camplese on teaching, working, living Web 2.0

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Cole Camplese about CI 597, a disruptive technology course. I talked to Cole about this experience and how it helped him in his other job as ETS director, leading a group that is developing disruptive technologies for education.

ETS Discussion: Dr. Matt Jackson

Matt JacksonThe Digital Commons team recently hosted Dr. Matt Jackson, Associate Professor of Communications and Head of the Department of Telecommunications in the the College of Communications to discuss copyright law, Fair Use, TEACH Act, and their impact on teaching and learning, especially as it concerns student and faculty use of multimedia. Dr. Jackson has done extensive research on issues of copyright, and provides many examples and fields questions from those in attendance which help to clarify an often intimidating subject.

Podcast: Collaborative Learning Spaces

This podcast is a few months old now, but I still believe it is a good listen. I spoke with Mary Ramsey, learning spaces coordinator, and Paul Schwartz, Teamwork Center coordinator, about Penn State’s development of collaborative learning spaces and Teaching and Learning with Technology’s involvement in this process. Collaborative learning spaces enable students to get together in one space to work on team presentations or team projects. Some spaces allow you to share documents on one large monitor, and some are comfortable lounge-type setups with wireless access.

Mary and Paul discuss the innovative design of these spaces, the technology involved, and how they enhance learning here at Penn State.
