The TLT Symposium has had its own Twitter channel for quite some time now … we used it last year and even had a big screen display in the break area to show off the tweets. Get started early this year and visit the Symposium’s Twitter page and follow along. I’m sure it will follow you back!

ETS staff were on the Twitter train quite some time ago … we had all sorts of discussion about its merits, potential pitfalls, and opportunities in the teaching and learning space. Strangely enough our Twitter use has continued and matured over the last year or so. One thing I know it gets used for are quite questions between our staff and those in the education technology space across PSU and beyond. One thing we can now do is combine Twitter with the very cool image capture/editing application, Skitch.

Skitch is like a camera for the Internet — at least that is what the Skitch people tell us. Skitch is a very handy and quick image capture and sharing application that now has built in support for sending Tweets when items are posted. I’ve been using it for a couple of days from my mobile phone … snapping quick pictures and sending them off to the web for publication — at the same time my Twitter community is handy a TinyURL to go see the picture. Nice little piece of functionality and could be very useful for sharing screenshots of all sorts of things. Might be worth a look.

A few weeks ago in an ETS Talk podcast we came up an idea to run a weekly “InstaPoll” via Twitter to try and grab some ideas and feedback for the show. We’ve run a few, but the notion of using an InstaPoll effectively has been hard to nail down — how to do them, collect the data, and use the results. Just a tough one to figure out.

I was on Twitter this morning and saw that Jamie Oberdick issued an InstaPoll looking for some feedback on what PSU could be providing more of. I think it is a great idea to ask the community, but like the InstaPolls for ETS Talk, I hate to see the results get lost. I thought I’d repeat Jamie’s questions here and ask that if you have ideas to leave them as comments. All are welcome! Jamie’s InstaPoll:

What would you like to see PSU offer technology-wise that we currently do not? Product, service, training, programs, etc.

Over the last several days Twitter has crept into our lives in huge way. Is it good that a critical mass are now watching each other? I have my thoughts and I will post them over at my personal blog, but I ask you as a PSU person, what do you think? There have been new connections made via this silly little piece of technology, but when do too many people spoil the party? Is this even a worthwhile question? Just something to throw out to the community … please don’t make us look dumb by not commenting — if you do, we’ll just delete the post and move on Let us know.
