Customizing Adobe Presenter Files

There may be times when you want to replace the Adobe logo with your own departmental logo, or the Penn State logo, and to have that logo link to somewhere else other than Adobe.

Problem with timed quizzes being submitted after a quiz has automatically closed

I am working with an instructor on a course that uses 90 min, timed quizzes. The quizzes are available during a short, 30 min window of opportunity. Some of the settings for the quiz are:
• disabled time warning under "Time settings"
• "Automatically submit when time limit expires" is selected
• Max attempts = 1
• "Warn about incomplete items" is selected
• auto save is disabled
• "Do not allow users to save and finish later" is selected
• Full Review is selected
The problem we're having is, say a student logs on 1 minute before the quiz closes and they complete the quiz before the 90 min and submit it, ANGEL shows the results as expected...

Next Adobe Connect Academic Users Group meeting

From the Adobe Connect Users Group Meeting:
The third Friday of the month is nearly upon us once again, and you know what that means... time for our next Adobe Connect Academic Users Group meeting!
It will be at our usual place online:
http://adobechats.adobe.acrobat.com/acaug
The meeting will start at 1 pm U.S.Eastern (GMT -4), and run about one hour.
Thanks to several fantastic individuals who responded to our recent plea for presenters, it looks like we have two lined up for this meeting, plus several others for future meetings.
For Friday, we have a frequent favorite past presenter, Terry Shane of Refined Data, to talk about their Talking Stick product, and Robert Gibson, Ed.D. Associate CIO - Academic and User Services Emporia State University, will speak about his school's integration of Connect into Blackboard.
And we still would love to hear from anybody else interested in presenting in the future, or just have topic suggestions. If you do, please write me at:
lodom@umuc.edu
In the meantime, hope you all can make it Friday!

Blackboard Demonstration

I'm at a demonstration of Blackboard that is being delivered by a combination of Blackboard and former ANGEL staff.  The demo covers their current version, BB9, not what they plan to develop as part of their Next Generation strategy.Blackboard's Mission:"To increase the impact of education, by transforming the experience of education"Three main product lines:

  • Blackboard learn - typical content management features
  • Blackboard transact - secure access to campus buildings, student meal cards, etc...
  • Blackboard connect - notification and alerting platform through a variety of forms (text, email, etc...)

Their "Project NG" will focus on integrating product lines and make it have more of a Web 2.0 drag-and-drop feel - which will eventually be released as Blackboard.  Blackboard has committed to work on ANGEL 8, which will include some new features as well as some features that will eventually help transition to Blackboard.Core Features of Blackboard (most of this isn't too surprising):

  • Content delivery with custom paths
  • Communication tools
  • Assessment tools for feedback and analysis
  • Portfolio capabilities
  • Participation in common cartridge/IMS development

Advantages over ANGEL:

  • Very scalable platform
  • Building Blocks program - frameworks for building custom tools with hooks into Blackboard API's

Moving to an actual demo now.  Version 9 focused largely on an interface change that brings together the best parts of Blackboard and WebCT.  After logging in, users are presented with a dashboard/portal that's much like ANGEL's home page that lists courses, announcements, headlines from external sources, and other panels that can be added by the user and may be customized based on the user's attributes (e.g. student in the college of engineering).
