What Captioning Resources Do We Know?

Are there any other transcription resources out there we should know about?

Mac app for captioning video and creating transcripts

I have recently completed (just tonight in fact) a Mac app that will help people create captions and transcripts for videos. I am going to show it to Bill Welsh in ODS soon, and hopefully work out a more streamlined process for getting captioned videos and transcripts. It works similar to the way StudioCode works, by repeating a loop of the movie until you can type it in correctly. Hitting the Return key records the caption and advances to the next few seconds of the movie. Still pretty tedious, but it will also import text transcripts for synching if you already have them.

We will be using it to caption the Blended Learning PHIL 012 videos, which will be served as Flash video files with captions. For PHIL 012, we used Dragon Naturally Speaking to convert speech to text. Right now we are having someone check the text against what is actually being said for accuracy, then we will import it into the app to synch it with the video and export the DFXP file for Flash captions.

I will try and demo it soon for general PSU use and hope to get it in the Mac labs on campus for Fall. I think it will be quite helpful.
