New PolyCom Streaming Option Available

TNS, a unit within Penn State's ITS, has purchased equipment so they can stream a live PolyCom event to a URL which remote participants can access through a browser (with an Internet connection, of course). The equipment was only just installed last week -- staff in Engineering are helping to test it -- so I'm not sure exactly when this new feature will be available to the community for use. Maybe it's already available, however, I didn't see it mentioned at the Penn State video conferencing Web site yet.

At the demonstration I attended in Engineering on Tuesday, the staff said there will be no extra charge for streaming and the recording of the stream will be available on the Web, after the meeting, through a URL.

For those of you who have been trying to use Adobe Connect to stream the live audio and video of an event, this might be a better option, especially if you would like higher quality audio and video. Although there is no interactivity available through PolyCom from the remote participants viewing the Web link, it is still possible to build interaction into the event. Two possibilities (among many) would be to set up a live chat room in ANGEL or to initiate an IM session.

Polycom videoconference recording

They will be able to record both sides of a videoconference as well as any slides for later viewing. One note, on Macs, you will have to download the VLC plugin to view these recordings.

Recording as well?

Do you know if they're able to record streams for later broadcasting with this particular system as well? Or is that a different system that's still in beta?

Contact Acrobat Connect Hub

I'm not sure myself. If you don't see a reply, you could post this question to the Adobe Connect Hub at http://meeting.psu.edu. The Tech Support team monitors that regularly.
