Learning Objects and Modular Content

Lately I have been working on developing learning objects for Adobe Connect. I actually started by trying to create some student lessons that could be used by faculty who want to use Adobe Connect in their classes but who don't want to spend class time teaching students how to use the technology. The more thought I put into it, the more confusing it got! Anyone who has tried to develop training materials for Adobe Connect can probably relate -- there is no one straight path from where you are to where you want to be. Everything in Adobe Connect is inter-related and how you teach something depends on exactly what it is you want your audience to be able to do.

For example, you might have students who have never used Adobe Connect and you want to get them started. You would probably start by having them run the Connection Test to be sure they are able to connect to the Penn State Adobe Connect server. You might give them very simple directions, demonstrate how to access the test, and show them what the test and results look like so they know if they have been successful or not. You might also include information about where to go for help if the test isn't successful. That same demonstration of accessing the test and viewing the results would also be appropriate for IT support staff, but for this audience, you might also include information about firewalls, the Sharing Plugin, and camera and microphone drivers.

Then, I realized that there really IS a limited amount of content which can be used repeatedly in a variety of ways for a variety of different audiences. So now the challenge has become to identify those basic nuggets of content. By identifying these nuggets and producing versatile, reusable content, I will be reducing my workload and streamlining my development process.

To that end I have created 4 examples of Adobe Connect Learning Objects and one example of a module and posted them on the Penn State Adobe Connect server.

Is anyone else interested in participating in a discussion about developing reusable Adobe Connect learning objects? Perhaps sharing Adobe Connect learning objects? And maybe even sharing modules and lessons you have created or ideas for creating modules and lessons from the learning objects?
