Overview
Through the TLT Fellows program, we strive to:
- Work collaboratively to identify emerging questions that are tied to the mission of TLT
- Create and grow communities exploring like topics to inform new practice
- Support directed research and development that has the potential to impact the practice of teaching and learning with technology
- Create an opportunity to develop longer-term relationships with key members of our audeinces
TLT Fellows will play a critical role in the success of many initiatives across TLT. Fellows will become essential to future of TLT’s network as nodes of intelligence, insight, energy, and knowledge-sharing; they help to drive projects from within and to bring fresh ideas and skills into our community. In addition to the various Fellow programs contained within this document, we will also establish a monthly Fellows’ Hour designed to assist in making connections and spawning new initiatives.
TLT Fellowships can be awarded on a project basis, but will carry with them requirements beyond project completion. In most cases, ongoing participation in TLT activities will be requested. More details are included in the descriptions below.
Typically, calls for participation as TLT Fellows will occur at a specified time, but Fellowships can be awarded in an ongoing fashion throughout the year. Categories (or a framework) that define areas we are interested in exploring with Fellows will be maintained at the ETS website and updated throughout the year as new initiatives or opportunities are discovered. The overriding goal is to find new ways to engage our audiences in an ongoing way to help investigate solutions to challenges associated with the mission of TLT. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage with us across a broad range of topics and will be asked to share their work on a regular basis with TLT staff and with other TLT Fellows.
Not all Fellowships will be provided with financial support in the form of a buy-out. Based on the request, TLT can also provide support in the form of equipment, staff time, travel support, or in other ways germane to the proposed Fellowship work. In some cases, Fellows can join TLT during a sabbatical period, but these are special cases. The TLT Fellowship program will not set a per project cap on funding and does not assume that all Fellowships will require funding.
We are proposing two levels of TLT Fellowships. They are:
- TLT Resident Fellowships
- TLT Nonresident Fellows
TLT Resident Fellowships
TLT fellowships are offered for a 12-month term (TLT Fellowships can be awarded throughout the academic year) to work with TLT to investigate and further work proposed under the Fellowship application. Resident Fellows will be asked to spend some time working with ETS staff and to maintain some scheduled within our working environment. In addition to achieving the stated goals associated with the Fellowship invitation, we ask that Fellows also understand the obligation for organizing a public presentation, writing publications, or assisting with TLT programs. Our goal for our Fellows is that they further work that we agree upon and help TLT create tangible outcomes that can be shared widely with the teaching and learning community.
We are open to accepting TLT Resident Fellowships from:
- Faculty from various Penn State locations
- Faculty from other Institutions
- Staff from various Penn State locations
- Staff from other Institutions
- Individuals from industry
- Students (undergraduate and graduate) from various Penn State locations
- In the cases of those from outside of Penn State, it is our expectation that these individuals will have already made an outstanding contribution to the field. Resident Fellowships are designed to provide those outside of the PSU system with an opportunity to engage with us on a regular basis.
In addition to agreed upon financial support, TLT Resident Fellows are provided with access to a workstation, ETS staff support, and access to other facilities within our work environment as appropriate. Please note that benefits in the form of housing, medical insurance, retirement benefits, etc are not provided for this position
TLT Non-Resident Fellowships
TLT fellowships are offered for a 12-month term (TLT Fellowships can be awarded throughout the academic year) to work with TLT to investigate and further work proposed under the Fellowship application. Nonresident fellows may be invited to join our group at the specific request of our organization or may be applied for via the process outlined below. Nonresident Fellowships are designed to encourage participation with TLT from those outside of the University Park campus area and do not require a residential period be spent within our offices. We would like encourage participation from many sources so that we can understand a greater range of issues and opportunities. We are open to accepting Nonresident Fellowships from:
- Faculty from various Penn State locations
- Faculty from other Institutions
- Staff from various Penn State locations
- Staff from other Institutions
- Individuals from business and industry
- Students (undergraduate and graduate) from various Penn State locations
In the cases of those from outside of Penn State, it is our expectation that these individuals will have already made an outstanding contribution to the field. Nonresident Fellowships are designed to provide those outside of the PSU system with an opportunity to engage with us on a regular basis.
In addition to agreed upon financial support, TLT Resident Fellows are provided with access to a workstation, ETS staff support, and access to other facilities within our work environment as appropriate. Please note that benefits in the form of housing, medical insurance, retirement benefits, etc are not provided for this position
