<h2>Project Objectives</h2>
<p>A simple game designed for multiple writing courses such as English 004, 015, 202A-D, and 419 will be developed to facilitate acquiring copyediting and proofreading skills, to help players identify and understand standard language usage, and to help players identify and understand proofreading errors in writing in English.</p>
<h2>Course Information</h2>
<p>For Spring 2010, the game will be piloted in at least one section of English 15, Rhetoric and Composition at Schuylkill campus. The maximum class size is 24.</p>
<h2>Game Design</h2>
<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<ol start="1" type="1">
<li>After performing the gaming activities, students will better identify common writing errors with 80% accuracy. Sample proofing tasks include:</li>
<ol start="1" type="a">
<li>Identifying sentence fragments.</li>
<li>Indentifying punctuation errors</li>
<li>Identifying spelling errors including homonym errors</li>
</ol>
</ol>
<h3>Game Objectives</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide practice of timed proofing of paragraphs containing writing errors.</li>
<li>Provide motivation to student by turning activity into a competitive scored sporting event.</li>
<li>Structure texts into an extended narrative to provide additional motivation.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Game Format</h3>
<p>The game will consist of several levels:</p>
<ul>
<li><b>Level 1</b> – simple errors only, one type per lesson (e.g. apostrophe errors). Texts 500 words maximum</li>
<li><b>Level 2,3</b> – two or more types of error per lesson. Longer texts.</li>
<li><b>Level 4</b> – any error possible. Texts can be 1,000+ words.</li>
</ul>
<p>All the passages will be form a fictinal short story lasting throughout the semester.</p>
