Talk:Digital Media Day at WinterFest 2009
From ETS
Suggested Framework for ETS WinterFest Presentations
Unlike previous years where everyone submitted individual proposals for sessions they wanted to present, this year ETS is participating in Winterfest as a group in an organized “event.” Audience:
Faculty and Instructional Designers
Suggestions about the event:
•It will either be a whole day, a half day, or two identical half day sessions
•We are planning on 30 to 40 participants
•People will register for the entire event – if it’s a half day event, they will register for the entire half day; if a whole day, then they will register for the whole day (Asg102 11:17, 1 October 2008 (EDT) If we do two similar half-day events, we could let people sign up for one or the other or both.)
•People won’t be able to pick and choose which sessions to attend – everyone who registers for the event will attend all of the sessions offered
•The topics presented will be related and general enough so that they are of interest to the entire group with specific examples for different disciplines
•The topics will include hands-on application of the concepts presented – at the end of the event, participants will have sample “products” that they can take with them.
•The product they take with them will be blog-based and contain any other items they have produced that they want to save by uploading as well as notes they have taken
•Personal laptops can be used, if desired, in addition to the lab computers but will not be encouraged
•Sessions will be set up as “stations” throughout the computer lab – participants will move to different computers for each session
•Sessions probably won’t work concurrently because the lab is one large room and noise for multiple simultaneous groups would be a distraction
•Tours of the Digital Commons, Testing Center, and Collaborative Work Spaces would be available at the end of the “event” and will be open to everyone, not just those registered for the event – the gaming commons will also be included in the list of places to tour
•Brett could do gaming demos like he did for the library Open House
•We are coordinating with training on this event and registration will be through SemReg
•We are hoping to be able to use the Pollock computer lab for the “event.” – if Pollock isn’t available, the sessions will probably be scheduled as they have been in the past rather than as a coordinated event
•Participating in the "event" doesn't mean you can't also submit topics to present at other WinterFest sessions
