About SCOLA

SCOLA is a non-profit educational organization that receives and re-transmits television programming from around the world in native languages. These programs are available via satellite, cable TV and the Internet to students of language study, ethnic communities, and anyone seeking a global perspective. Teaching and Learning With Technology is pleased to announce this new resource for instructors of foreign languages at Penn State.

These resources will include streamed videos and Insta-Class materials. The streamed videos will be delivered via the ITS QuickTime streaming server. The links to the streamed videos as well as supporting Insta-Class materials will be updated each week into this blog space. Faculty may link directly to this material from their course Web sites in ANGEL.

SCOLA Insta-Class lessons will consist of a video and audio clip of a segment of native language news broadcasts that have been transcribed and translated. Students will be able to watch the video while reviewing a transcript, translation, quiz, or vocabulary in a convenient PDF form, which can either be viewed online or printed.

The combined use of the video and audio clips available in the individual Insta-Class instructional materials enhance language training through the use of current events. It is ideal as a textbook supplement and suitable for use by an individual or a class to extend vocabulary, grammar, reading and comprehension.
