funny characters; anything to do with macros?
I have a client who has a survey in word, which also contains macros (which I am not well acquainted with), and when he opens the file on his computer he’s seeing funny characters. However, when I attempted to open the file on my home computer and on a lab machine there were no funny characters displayed. One reason for this could be because he has an older version of Windows than the lab machines. Any other explanations?
Week 13 Dec. 11- 17
Total hours this week: 1 h
- Meet Craig Eozzo on Dec.15, 1:00pm-2:00pm, at 247 Chambers. First I answered a few general questions about Breeze. Then We set up a meeting room step by step. We played around the meeting room and checked the basic functions in it. Craig would like to have a few more meetings next semester. However, since I will not be able to continue consultation next semester, another tutor is needed to work with Craig.
- Sent email to Maureen Jones, but didn't get reply since last Monday. Because I will be out of town after this Tuesday(Dec 19). I will let Dan know about it and see if we need to re-assign another tutor.

Kathleen Postle is a lecturer in BMB who was interested in learning about the ANGEL platform. She is a new professor to Penn State and was excited to learn about the ease of our course management system. She had signed on to ANGEL before but had never started to use it. I first introduced her to the online help section as well as started to build a course website for one of her disabled courses. We discussed adding and editing folders, quizzes, surveys, webpages and uploading files. She was extremely enthusiastic about everything and found ANGEL to be idiot proof. We worked on improving her comfort level in working online, and she will be playing around with her course website over the next few weeks. She has scheduled a second meeting with me in order to answer any questions or overcome any obstacles she may encounter while constructing her site.
I also met with Maritza briefly today to help her copy some data across different Excel tables. She has become increasingly more computer literate since we have begun our sessions and where she used to fear signing on to ANGEL, she now feels very comfortable.
Additionally, I e-mailed Robert Slaney, a new consult, with hopes of squeezing in one more client before the semester’s end.
I look forward to my upcoming meetings on the 19th with both Maritza and Kathleen and I hope to be back next semester to continue my consultations.
Week 11
I met with Paula Faulkner again to help her finalize and publish her survey using SurveyMonkey. We are planning to meet again this week so I can help her set up her new PC and show how to use it.
I contacted Mrs. Dumas, but she was busy last week. We will meet this Wednesday at 1pm. I believe we will be working on her website and helping her distribute video online.
I met with Mr. McDevitt and we went over using Angel to handle his grading. I showed him the new Gradebook functionality, and he plans to use it next semester. He wants to play with it but is afraid of messing up grades and would instead like to play with a sandbox-mode demo version if possible. I sent Jeff an email about this, but my mail has been on the fritz lately so I am uncertain if he received it think I will send another after completing this.
4 December Meetings: 30 minutes (McDevitt) & 1 hr (Faulkner)
Week 11: Dec. 3 to Dec. 9
Total Hours this week: 1.5
- Meeting with Jon Olson on Friday, Dec. 8
I am really impressed with the way Jon is coming along with his html development and the Center for Excellence in Writing website. We have been working on this site for the past year and have change a lot of the look and feel and he's doing a great job. Here is a link to the site: http://www.psu.edu/dept/cew/ When we met Friday, we worked on simply the file structure that is present on the server. We are working on what needs updated and what needs removed. He's come a long way within a year.
- I emailed and heard back from Ann Sidone and we will be meeting either Thursday or Friday of this week.
