Saratoga man’s networking Web site enhances education

“What value could a social networking Web site like MySpace have in a classroom? A teacher would consider MySpace a waste of time, and an administrator would caution students about the dangers of cyberbullying.

But what if social networking was combined with interactive learning in a safe environment? What if social networking Web sites allowed students to learn about the latest tools and technologies, which schools perpetually struggle to finance and keep up to date?”

Quite an interesting article; as this man has come up with a social network that K-12 educators might accept. What are your opinions on this idea?

I’m a reader of Edutopia, an interested follower of K-12 education. I belief that a University is the wrong place to be teaching the elementary ins and outs of technology. Learning should be happening much earlier, but I see K-12 educators stepping aside, even banning technologies that they should be using and helping students to understand. This is a great instance of someone with initiative opposing the flow.
    Nice.
I hope they don’t strap him to a dunking stool.
