Some of you may have heard that Penn State has a "portfolio platform" on the Blogs at Penn State, but may not know where it is or how to customize it.
This semester, I thought it would be a good idea to write a series guiding you through the process of creating a portfolio or blog. If you want to read, you may find the information on http://blogger.psu.edu/help/portfolio useful, although some information may be slightly out of date.
Now to the tips
-------------
Step 1 - Storyboard Portfolio
Before you do anything on the Web it's always a good idea to have a storyboard or outline and content written. You may also want to think about gathering multimedia for what you will need.
To plan which pages you might need, look at the tips on http://ets.tlt.psu.edu/twt/porProcess#porPhase2
For inspiration, there is a demo TWT portfolio on the blogging platform at
http://www.personal.psu.edu/ejp10/blogs/portfolio_t/. Hopefully you may even do better.
To follow along with the tutorial next week, I would suggest the following pages minimum
* Teaching Philosophy
* About
* Contact
* A blog entry (maybe something about how the portfolio process is going)
Step 2 - Activate Web Space
You won't be able to post a portfolio at Penn State (either on blogs or the older way with Dreamweaver/Front Page) UNLESS you activate your Personal Web space.
To activate Web space, go to https://www.work.psu.edu/webspace/ and fill in answers for the quiz based on the information in the Web Space FAQ.
(Hint: The longest answer is the correct answer)
Once you pass the quiz, the activation process takes up to 3 business days.
Blogs Teaching Tip
If you want students to create their own blogs or portfolio in a classroom, you need to build in this time for them to activate Web space before they can complete assignment work.
