Holodecks in Second Life

In SL, due to server load, you are limited by the amount of prims (3D graphic shapes) you can place in a given location.

You can also "rez" (make appear) and "de-rez" prims by hand or via scripts.

Thus, a technical solution exists to the prim limit issue. Create a scene, tie a script to it, and you can create/destroy that scene at will. In Star Trek terms, you have a holodeck!

The English Village, a very active spot in SL for teaching English, is using holodecks for their teaching efforts. The idea is teachers can rez a scene to be used as the backdrop for discussions while learning.

Check out some of their scenes!  The use of holodecks seems to be spreading. More educators are running up against their prim limits. Holodecks seem to be a viable solution.
