Meeting Notes for August 11, 2008
The goal is to standardize the look and feel of the digital media for the symposium in order to put a more professional touch on these recordings as well as make them available to our audience sooner. In particular, we would like the keynote speaker, the lunchtime session, the person-on-the-street interviews, the interviews done in the digital commons interview room, and the interviews done prior to the symposium to have the same professional look and feel. Toward that end Hannah and Matt will co-lead the media event committee. This committee will be responsible for standardizing the media production process including audio & video template design, the recording, editing, digitizing and posting process. Coordinating the room recordings. Responsible for the equipment needed to record the keynote and lunch sessions as well as the podcasting/vodcasting equipment to be used in the interview room and on the street interviews. This group will also take the lead in creating a "Digital Commons Lennon Bus" designed to capture participants interacting with equipment from the gaming initiative, perhaps Rock Band.
Hannah and Matt will both be part of the Core Committee. Jeff will work directly with Hannah and Matt by passing along the idea generated by the Program Committee, as well as other interested areas. Hannah and Matt will determine if we are able to implement the idea and, if we are, what resources are needed. Jeff will work to get them any resources they need that exist outside their team. Potential team members include: Jamie Oberdick and Chris Stubbs (to do interviews), Audrey Romano (for site design), Kim Wink and Pat Besong (for recording), Justin Miller and Ryan Wetzel (production). If you need anyone else not listed let me know and I'll ask them.
Some of the ideas generated at today's meeting include:
- Aim to live stream the keynote address. While this may not be possible due to network limitations at the Penn Stater, taking this approach will enable us to get the recording up and available faster.
- Capture the keynote address by having a camera on the speaker and a direct feed into her/his presentation. An alternative would be to have a second camera focused on the presentation.
- Create a "studio look" for the Digital Commons interview room. This room can be created here in Rider for the pre-conference interview sessions. This will make it possible to do the interview and the marketing photo shoot on the same day. This room will then be re-created at the Penn Stater for the symposium.
- Video recording the person-on-the-street interviews. We can use the hand held camera and if they video quality is poor we can always use the audio portion.
- A potential model for the Digital Commons Lennon Bus is the open house at the library September 9 and 10 where the educational gaming commons is being incorporated into the digital commons space.
