Director/Manager Interviews
From ETS
Here's a suggestion for a cut-down version:
1. Who should be using your website, and why?
Prompt for:
- Internal audiences
- External audiences
- Any existing audience research / feedback? If so
- When / how do you get feedback from users? - Main take-home?
When they visit your (part of the) site, what does each of your website audiences want to:
- Know?
- Do?
- Feel? (What impression of TLT/your unit should they take away?) Any predjudices we need to counteract?
... when they visit your (part of the) site [Differences with what you want them to know/do/feel?] - Is any sequence required? - What are the priorities? - What is the primary "action" the site visitor should take when coming to your site?
- How do these people know about what you offer them?
- How will they know to visit the website at all? - What prompts a visit? - What sites should be linking to your pages? How? (particular terminology?) - What search terms will people be using to find your pages via search engine? Why?
- Why will people come to (your part of) the site?
- Why will they come back? - How often do you want them to come back?
- Will your audience(s) have expectations that are shaped by any other website (e.g. in terms of structure, semantics, information, functionality...)?
2. What elements of the current site work...
- ...Well? Why? (Think navigation / structure, vocabularies, tone/style, use of images…)
- ...Poorly? Why? (ditto)
- How does the web fit in with other communication/interaction efforts?
As relevant, prompt for:
A. Website information What information about your initiative/services is
- On the existing site and important (to be retained)?
- On the existing site but unimportant (can be removed)?
- Missing? (What’s already been requested but not implemented?)
- Who owns it?
- Who should be updating it? How often?
- What signoffs are already required? (What’s the process?)
- Any legal considerations?
B Website functionality What’s already in place?
- How is it used? What does it deliver? How does it fit with business processes?
- What works well?
- What could be improved?
What other functionality would be useful, and why?
- Who would use it?
- When would they use it?
- What would it deliver?
- Why is this useful?
- How does it fit with business processes? (What, if anything, does it replace?)
3. The wider world
- What should we be linking out to? Why?
- Sites elsewhere that are doing things you think your website should be doing, and why?
- Any trends in internet use you think could be significant for the future of your site? Why?
4. Wrap up
- What questions should we have asked that we didn’t?
