Intern for production and design work
Derick met with Allan on 7/7 to show him the list that the Communications Group compiled of the projects that will require design and/or production work over the next year. Allan has asked that we come up with a write-up for this position that includes critical needs, perceived hours per week, workflow, and reporting structure.
- Derick will complete a rough draft of this write-up and send it to the rest of the Communications Group for input.

- internal newsletter/Daily Buzz (Jamie)- Starting in January, the internal TLT newsletter transformed from an employees-only publication to a section on the TLT public Web site known as the “Daily Buzz.” The Daily Buzz consists of three sections. The TLT CoffeeRead takes a look at educational technology in the media and are designed to get people thinking and talking about how the articles relate to what Penn State is doing in teaching and learning with technology. The BuzzLion gives an at-a-glance look at some of the activity going on in TLT. The Daily Buzz also includes feature articles on TLT events, projects, people, ideas, trends, etc. # Daily Buzz (Jamie)-
- New sections include Home Page Featured Stories and Highlights, News, Events, Newsletter, Videos, Reports-Surveys-HotTeams, ITS Forums, Podcasts
- Primary goal for new website is to make the site better for users. Initiatives: Easy-to-find, Fresh and Relevant, Consolidate.
- Conducted interviews and usability testing to help make decisions about architecture and labeling. Organize global navigation by task, using action verbs in the labeling.
- New content is coming in and going out via aggregation and RSS feeds. Content is dynamically being organized internally by using custom item types, Collections, and keywords.
- Another problem was that there are services with 2-3 related websites. We created a few pages we call "springboard" pages that highlight the most basic info a user might need and the context to understand why they would click away to those 2-3 related sites.

Google Analytics Training with Josh Ellis
Josh replied to my email and said that he'd be happy to do some brown bag lunches.
- He has asked to know what sort of information would be useful. Are there specific features of Google Analytics we'd like to cover, or do we want a general overview of the tool and how to use it? If we are looking for hands-on "this is how you do it" information, then he can put something together. If we want something more on the theory and best practices side, it might be helpful to have Shelby Thayer from his marketing strategy team as well.
- We would like to have both Josh and Shelby come and talk to us.
- Derick will email Josh and coordinate and initial lunch meeting where we can introduce everyone, discuss the things we would like to cover, and set up a schedule to have future brown bags
- Derick will send an email to the ETS staff list regarding these brown bags and inviting anyone who would like to attend
- Derick will also send a note to the ITS MarComm group to invite anyone who would like to attend
- Derick will update the Training Basecamp regarding looking for a vendor to teach Google Analytics
TLT Web Team
We need to set up meetings for this group. Audrey has two big web projects she is currently working on (CLC site and Symposium site). We need the Web Team to identify what the next big focus is.
