Design Brief for Phase II
Initiatives
This project includes the refinement of the architecture and interface based on extensive usability testing. The structure and hierarchy of the site will continue to be based on user-centered design. Migration of content includes evaluation and assessment of existing, editing, recreating content in the CMS, and the creation of new architecture, metadata, and optimization of all files/images.
Initiatives for Phase II
- Refine information architecture
- Refine user interface (Usability testing)
- Design workflow for content providers and editors
- Plan for cross-TLT (and ITS) Web site link-backs and aggregation
- Migrate content into CMS as appropriate
- Develop new functionality (Innovate)
for the Teaching and Learning with Technology Web site, so that it better meets the needs of users and of TLT.
Future Initiatives
- Create a TLT-wide style guide
- Improve search to includes all TLT sites
- Increase copyright and accessibility awareness in relation with each service
Migration/Archive Plan
Meeting Notes

Attendees: Barb Smith, Elizabeth Pyatt, Audrey Romano
reviewed awstats from 5/07 which showed high search hits for:
- cyberplag/cyberplagstudent.html
- turnitin
would be a good idea to have a larger group meeting including allan and yvonne to talk about consolidate the copyright/plagiarism topic
iStudy is the responsibility of the University Learning Centers. However, it is known that the person who was to take ownership is no longer on staff.
Cyberplagiarism ANGEL - consider having ANGEL documentation take over content
COPYRIGHT: allan yvonne elizabeth
ANGEL: brett jeff mary elizabeth

- continue to link to
- accessibility.psu.edu points to the suggestions/accessibility
MELD:
- barb recommends to close it
- consult with JTH
ASSESSMENT:
- already moved to LD hub
CLASS MANAGEMENT:
- EXCEL
- elizabeth to contact TS about taking this info, or she'll move the Formulas to LD hub or move into plone
- ELION CLASS LIST

- mentoring - bring to ID meetings, roxanne in engineering volunteered to maintain but no action has been done

Follow ups
ACCESSIBILITY (Accessibility and Diversity > Creating Accessible Web Sites)
- Aug 27 Email was sent to Doug Stanfield from Barb to follow up previous requests to change the link to the accessibility site.
Within Policy AD 54 - http://guru.psu.edu/policies/ad54.html#H there is a link out to an accessibility site on the TLT website. http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/accessibility/ . This link will soon be removed and replaced with the new link: http://accessibility.psu.edu/ as the site is moved and updated.
- Sept 15 The request was forwarded to Rick Witmer by Doug.
- Sept 18 The Guru ad54 policy now links to http://accessibility.psu.edu . Unfortunately this redirects to our old content. Do you have a specific or even ballpark estimate as to when the new site will be created.
MENTORING STUDENTS + TEACHING/LEARNING STYLES + BUILDING BLOCKS FOR TEAMS + ANGEL
- Aug 27 Email was sent to Brett Bixler from Elizabeth to inform about the content migration and to follow up on content ownership and migration of Mentoring Students and Teaching/Learning Styles to the Learning Design Hub. A suggestion for a new content owner for Building Blocks for Teams was made with a request on how to proceed. Changes concerning ANGEL-specific information, student information and other topics may impact the Building Blocks for Teams, so it would be good to involve the right people sooner rather than later.
- Aug 29 - Sept 2 Re: Building Blocks for Teams: If a content owner cannot be found, then we have to archive them. Parts could be moved to the LD Hub, however maintaining the content is a low-priority. Perhaps best left the way it is.
- Sept 2 Re: Mentoring Students: It was originally Rox's. It was suggested that she receive a copy of the site, then either remove or archive the site.
GRADEBOOK WITH EXCEL [1]
- Sept 18 Request was made to Training Services to evaluate whether this content could be maintained and housed on their site. Tara is looking into this.
Meeting Notes for Sept 18, 2008
ACTION ITEM: establish due dates (Audrey)
iStudy
- barb: john was going to get in touch with roxanne - was going to set up a meeting
- brett: looks like will come back to us (yvonne)
- we should plan for that
- keep it where it is (do not migrate) because it could become someone else's responsibility and then would need to be moved out of the tlt site
Cyberplagiarism
- migrate in some
- work with elizabeth
- TEACH ACT (random owners)
- TURNITIN (yvonne) - next week there's a meeting around the fact that turnitin is moving to help desk. it could move to the knowledge base.
- we should meet in a small group to make decisions on a Springboard or Section that provides context for all of the cyberplagiarism content/siTes
Accessibility
ACTION ITEM email Christian. it's part of the TLT cleanup. Brett extends an invitation to the All ID meeting to get work out to people who could help contribute to the site. Also consider to Web Standards and Usability groups. (Audrey)
MELD
- Barb will follow up with JTH. He's got to make the decision.
- Yvonne has some stats from that
Assessment
- make this a springboard page?
Class Management
ACTION ITEM Contact eLion to see if they could take ownership of the Class List Howto (Audrey)
Teamwork
- Elizabeth will convert some of the content to PDF and make them available to see how it gets used.
International
- talked about moving this to its own domain since it is more of a research project of Elizabeth's than a significant responsibility of TLT (although the site receives over 200,000+ hits per month).
- possible domain: its.psu.edu/symbolcodes | its.psu.edu/symbols its.psu.edu/accentcodes
ACTION ITEM Ask Mimi pending followup from Elizabeth (Audrey)

Problem:
- New, separate web sites are frequently being created on this topic without integration.
- Different audiences.
- Not clear what content is redundant or new, which sites can be eliminated or which to keep updated.
- Where cross-linking does exist, it is hard to keep up to date on changing content and URLs.
Suggestions:
- think about streamlining content in similar topic domains over time. may make the community maintenance of content much more efficient
Next Steps:
- Recommend to migrate Teach Act and Turnitin to the new TLT site.
- Recommend putting the Turnitin info at http://turnitin.psu.edu and creating a button to Log In to the turnitin service from there. Currently the log in assumes that URL and the information lives at tlt.its.psu.edu/turnitin. This is confusing to the user.
- Elizabeth and Audrey will start a planning session and migration of the Cyberplagiarism student and faculty sites into the new TLT site.
- Audrey will create a Copyright and Plagiarism Springboard page using the work we did in Phase 1.
