Carla, I thought this might be a useful exercise. We can build it and then it will be available when we need it.Is it worth summarizing the pertinent aspects of theories here as well?

Thanks, Vicki. I've posted some of my thoughts on learning theory on my blog [1].

Applicable Theories

Social Learning / Social Cognition Theory (Bandura)
Social Interaction Theory (Vygotsky)
Situated Learning Theory (Lave)
Constructivist Theory (Bruner)

Thoughts to ponder: Is much thought being given to the portability of Blogs as Portfolio to other (PSU external) environments? I would tend to think of this as very important as students leave PSU, giving a means to carry learning artifacts as evidence to potential employers, and as a way to promote lifelong learning.

Yes. Brad and Chris are working on a "pack-it-up" tool. One use is to submit entries/artifacts to other venues for evaluation purposes. Another is to allow students a seamless means of taking their blogs with them when they go.
