Description
The Rogue Team will be responsible for building a community and intellectual energy before the Symposium and keeping people engaged during the Symposium. Their areas of responsibility will be in flux, but will include the design of the following: Things that should go into the "Steps toward the Symposium" notes (Jeff to send out) Sharing a series of videos (created internally or externally) with Symposium attendees Sharing relevant reports, whitepapers, survey results, and other data related to the topic Working with the marketing group to optimize our use of Twitter, Facebook, etc... Working with the program group on the integration of tools such as the Live Question Tool into all sessions Symposium implementation of Google Wave (if possible) Organizing community-design low-cost swag (stickers, buttons, etc...) Overall Guiding Principles
- Hands-on, community elements
- Immediacy of social media
Cafe Press Store
- Allan, Barb, Sheri should meet to discuss setting up a permanent store and getting a pro account
- Can we embed this on the Symposium site?
- Example of a store
- Talk with Kim Horgas as well as Sheri V - Barb may be able to help
Name Badges
- Allan is talking to Robin Smail about her Knit Pistols name badges (like backstage passes)
- PSU IDs with avatar images instead of head shots
- Robin will follow up on Tltsym Name Badge possibilities
- Front Elements:
- Attendee Name
- Event Hashtag
- Twitter Name (Optional)
- Foil Transfer Design
- Back Elements
- QR Code for Badge (can be for each attendee)
- Name again
- Hashtag again
- Twitter Name again
- But will do pretty much whatever we want
- Other Ideas:
- Attendee Since...?
Poster Session
- Have the posters visible in the hallways and on the Web site ahead of time
- Can be one of the Steps toward Symposium announcements
- Timing of asking for a poster could be an issue
- Voting: give people some sticky dots and have them put them on the posters they like the most, top ones get to present to the room
- Posters are going to be set up by presenters in the session right before the poster session, so it may not be possible to have those in the hallways ahead of time.
- Glogster
- Voicethread-based poster session?
- Gather collections of impressions and add them to something like a picture of the keynote sepeaker
- YouTube responses during the day
- Pair each one of us with a technology and a potential presenter as a learning experience
- Encourage people to post it to their blog before/during
- Open Art Gallery - empty frame, memory sticks, print as you go and showcase around the room at the end of the day
Image Stream
- Something like PicFog
- Displays in the hallways
- Photo Mosaic
- PhotoSynth
Lennon Bus
- Create during the day
- Showcase products at the end

- One room as a learning lab
- "Blogs in 15 minutes"
- Story-corps room or Digital Storytelling Room
Location
- Are we on the first or second floor?
- If first floor, we have access to the horseshoe rooms and computer lab
- We should send out reps from the Core team to decide what floor we want
After Lunch
- Some kind of table-based activity
- "Table Wars"
- Record with a Flip Camera at a table - each table makes a story and posts it
- Ask everyone to take a picture at the same time and do a photo montage
- Synthesis time right after lunch
- We should probably be the group to revive the facebook group and event
- Mashable's Facebook Guides: http://mashable.com/category/facebook/
- Groups or Pages, Just for Symposium or all TLT Events?
- Page, TLT Events
- Account is TLTSymposium
- Jeff and Allan have direct access
- Connected to the RSS feed coming out of the Blogs at Penn State platform to repost anything that is tagged with #tltsym
Countdown E-mails and Blog Posts
- Similar to Countdown to Camp or Steps toward Symposium notes
- What to bring
- Things to read/watch ahead of time
- Preview of event
Symposium Preview Video
- Something to be released in January to give a preview of the program highlights?
Stickers
- Community-generated interest-based stickers that could represent an avatar or interest
Preview Video
- Show things shaping up
- Behind the scenes
- On the spot, spontaneous
- Tag, You're It - shoot a video about the Symposium and then tag the next person
- No Tag backs
- Answer a question, leave a comment, create threads
- Addictomatic to follow the feeds
Pathable
- This is a tool to enable people who are coming to an event to connect with each other and more easily see what other attendees are writing, recording, producing, tweeting, attending, etc...
- We have decided NOT to use it this time around because not it would require an additional userid/password, which may upset some of the attendees.
- It was also hoped that this would smooth over some of the processes such as namebadge creation, but if everyone isn't in the system, there would have to be a lot of double entry and cross-checking.
Maximizing the Rogue Theme

- digitalscholarship
- Is Zazzle a better option?
- one card per track or by time slot?
- Tracks put together make a design?
- Are these appetizers or desserts?
- Needs:
- Invitations
- Day-of interaction?
- Connections for afterward
- Gaming element
- Reputation of Presenter, personal information, project connection, presenter item, goodwill
